JANUARY 31, 2016, SUNDAY
MARK YOUR CALENDARS! SMU Dedman College of Humanities and Sciences – Jewish Studies is planning their week-long celebration of Judeo-Spanish and Ladino culture, January 25-31, 2016. The Trio Sefardi will be performing in Caruth Auditorium on January 31 at 4:00 p.m. For those of you that have had your DNA tested and discovered your Jewish ancestry, this would be a wonderful opportunity to experience the Judeo-Spanish and Ladino culture firsthand.
It Was a Great 2015!
2015 was a great year for HOGAR. Our members and friends continued to inspire us with their passion to research their ancestry. We look forward to seeing everyone again at the 2016 HISPANIC ANCESTRY TRIBUTE for TRINIDAD (TRINI) GARZA on January 15, 6PM at Latino Cultural Center.
We want to thank this year’s quarterly meeting speakers: Rachel Amado Bortnick, Mic Barnette (Dallas Pubic Library), and Anthony J. Delgado. We also want to extend our gratitude and appreciation to our genealogy workshop speakers: Gayla Bush and Mic Barnette (Dallas Public Library); Jo Ann Valentin, Gloria S. Cantu, and Susan P Vega (HOGAR); and author and historian, Art Martinez de Vara, JD. Finally, we are grateful of the collaborations with and the support from Dallas Mexican American Historical League (DMAHL), Latino Cultural Center (LCC), and Dallas Public Library – Lochwood Branch.
The date to submit applications for the 2016 HOGAR Pedro Aguirre, Sr. and Maria Elisa Talavera Memorial Scholarship is approaching soon. We will keep you posted.
